Athletics have been a big part of my life. Ever since I was very young, I did everything from AAU basketball to baseball and loved it. However I didn't really get what it meant to strive to be better, as a person and in sports.

The biggest lesson I learned from sports hit me during the second practice of my freshman year of high school basketball; or rather I hit it. During a scrimmage, a member of the opposing team broke away down the court for a lay up. I shot down the floor after him, jumped, and knocked the ball away. But what goes up must come down, and I came down hard, breaking my arm. As I lay there trying to process what happened with adrenaline still coursing through me from the game, I realized that my dreams for that year were over, out of my control. And for about a week I moped about feeling sorry for myself, then I came to the conclusion that the only thing in the world that could make me a failure at anything is me.

This year I decided that I would branch out and try my luck at track and field and I love it. I love the never-ending stream of new people that I meet in my effort to be the best I can be in my event. Going to Nationals with the Spokane Speed Academy would be an amazing opportunity to test my self against the best of the best and to meet new people I hope to call my friends.

Track and field has changed my life in so many ways and I hope that I may one day be able to pursue track and field into college.
