Spokane Speed Academy - Peyton Putney

Born in Spokane, Washington, Peyton Putney [DOB 08.26.99] will be a Junior at Cheney High School in Cheney, Washington.

I love track because of the competition.  I love to push myself and I love to win.  When you are running, nothing matters but you and the track and the person next to you.  11 seconds seems to last a really long time!  Running also gives me the feeling of freedom and release.  I get that same feeling playing music.

My Dad and my uncle inspired me to be a musician.  When I was younger, I played piano, trumpet and percussion.  I continue to play sometimes and have started writing music as well.  My Dad was also a football player and ran track, but I found the sport of track and field on my own.  I was always the fastest kid in grade school, even though I was pudgy.  So when I began competing in track in middle school, I gave everything else up to focus on that.

In my first year in high school, I was the only freshman competing at state in the 200 meter dash.  I joined Spokane Speed Academy in 2015 and qualified for Nationals in all 4 of my events:  the 100 meters and 200 meters, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.  As a sophomore, my team mates at Cheney High School voted me captain of the boys track team.

Track connects to my future because I want to run as long as possible, even after I am not competing anymore.  I am also interested in a sports-related career, such as sports medicine or sports psychology.
