Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Maya Le Bar [DOB 05.13.2000] will be a Junior at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, WA.
Ever since I was a child, I have loved to compete. I participated in competitive piano lessons and competitions as well as cross country skiing and soccer until my second year of middle school, when I put the rest of my life on pause for the sport I love most: track and field. Off the track I enjoy studies involving history and English, and spending time with track friends and school friends alike. On the track, I specialize in sprints specifically the 200m and 4x100m/4x200m relays, and the triple jump. Over the last year and a half I have learned to run and jump with shin splints caused by the triple jump. After many hours of physical therapy, pain, and hard work in the gym, I began to work out my injury and learn to triple jump in a way that would be less harmful to my body. As a result, for the first time I qualified for State in the Triple Jump this year (2016), as well as qualifying in the 4x200 relay. In 2015, my Lewis and Clark high school 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams both placed first at State. I qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Association Nationals in 2015 in the 4x100 meter relay, the triple jump, and the long jump. Running and being active has always been a passion of mine, and Spokane Speed Academy has provided me with an environment in which I can build strong relationships with other athletes, and learn more about track and field. In future years I plan to attend college and run and jump as a collegiate athlete on a high level. |
