When I moved to Spokane from my hometown in Cuba at the age of four years old, I was one of the most active kids in my head start classes. Ever since my elementary school years, I have always been into sports and been active in them. I also participated in different activities like guitar lessons and band classes for my school. As I moved on to my high school years at Rogers High School, I joined the freshman football team. My football coach who was also my biology teacher asked me to join track and I did. As a freshman, I got to run varsity alongside seniors J.J. Curry and Khalil Winfrey. When district meet came I got qualified as top sixteen for the one-hundred-meter dash and also the two-hundred-meter dash. At the end of the day at districts I placed fifth in two-hundred-meter dash and I moved on to regionals and placed fifth. It was a really fun experience for me to run at that high of a level of competition. Khalil Winfrey told me about the “Spokane Speed Academy.” It is a great and awesome experience being around other athletes that share the same passion as me and our coach, Cecil Jackson. At the first practice my coach told all of us that he wanted to take us to Nationals. Making it to Nationals has accomplished one of my dreams and I know it will be good for my future.
